VinylRest ABC Player user manual

Load an original and a processed file, keep them on one exact sample timeline, and compare Source, Cleaned and the live A − B Difference without interrupting playback.

Applies to VinylRest ABC Player 1.0 (build 3)

What ABC Player does

VinylRest ABC Player is a native macOS application for critical audio comparison. It plays two compatible files from the same frame position and provides three instant monitoring choices: the original Source, the processed Cleaned file, and their live Difference.

A · Source file
B · Cleaned file
Shared sample timeline
A, B or C = A − B
Comparison stays literal: ABC Player does not resample, trim, align, normalize or convert either file. A and B must already describe the same sample timeline.
VinylRest ABC Player playing C Difference between matching Reference and Restored files
C Difference is selected while the matching A and B files continue on the shared playhead.

Choose a chapter

Recommended first comparison

  1. Select Choose A · Source and open the original reference file.
  2. Select Choose B · Cleaned and open the processed version of the same recording.
  3. Confirm that both cards report the same sample rate, channel count and duration.
  4. Select Play, then use A Source and B Cleaned to judge the audible result at the same playback position.
  5. Select C Difference to hear what is present in A but absent from B.
Listen in short loops of attention: switch A/B several times around one voice, cymbal, reverb tail or transient. Then use C to identify whether the processing removed only the intended defect.
